Bear went splat at about 11:00 last night, after noticing that I was falling asleep in my chair rather than actually typing anything. The fact that the flower_cat, and hence I, had been sleeping particularly badly Monday night probably had something to do with it.

This morning we both felt much better.

Today is (2x10³+2³)/2³/3³. Be there or be, um, cubical.

My phone number in Mass. used to be... well, I had to invent a notation, but I think it makes sense: string iteration:

I_{i=x ^y} (a) (except the y should be over the i=x)

means "concatenate iterations of expression a, in each one using the successive values of i from x to y".

So my number was I_{i=0 ²} [I_{j=0 ⁱ (2³ - i) ]}
or
877-6666

Yes, I did get crank calls and weird questions. Why do you ask?

Both my house number and (7-digit) phone numbers are palindromes: 343 and 2946492 respectively. Almost certainly not a coincidence.

Almost certainly a coincidence, I should say. Why think otherwise? Did you request them?

In our case, our kosher butcher remarked that he had another customer whose number ended -6666. dunkelpig thinks somebody at the phone company said, "Hmm, $LASTNAME, that looks Jewish. Maybe finally these people won't scream at us about the Number of the Beast!"

They were already in place when we moved in 30+ years ago, but the house is easily old enough that the previous owners might have requested a palindromic phone number to go with their house number.
