Thanks. RFC 1149 is actually about the equivalent of a T3 connection; it would be the ideal solution except that her window doesn't open, and I have no experience handling pigeons in any case. Sneakernet with a USB drive is a distinct possibility.
I know about routers and bridges using PCMCIA cards; cheaper to cobble one up using a laptop borrowed from work, and quite possibly the most practical solution overall.
