River: A bit of perspective
2010-10-10 10:36 amTreeHugger points out that today is Powers of Ten Day, celebrating the film by Charles and Ray Eames. (TreeHugger links to three different versions of the film.)
It seems like a good day to take a step back and get a little perspective on things. I like to think that I'm being objective about myself and my problems most of the time, but that's clearly an illusion. I'm bound to my own point of view, at my own scale; a shift in perspective of only a few orders of magnitude makes my entire existance insignificant.
Oddly enough, I'm OK with this. I enjoy the stretch. I enjoy the knowledge that I shouldn't take myself and my problems too seriously, that in the Great Scheme of Things they're really not all that important.
I think that, as an inveterate procrastinator, I probably have the opposite challenge: taking my problems seriously enough to try to fix them. The Simpsons version doesn't help.
