I'd originally wanted to clear this out a week ago, and do a separate post for OVFF. Well, ... not so much, I guess.

OVFF was very good. I went into it very concerned over leaving Colleen with Emmy for the weekend -- if I'd known when I made the reservations just where she was in her recovery, I wouldn't have. But she had a good time without me anyway, and the YD really outdid herself taking care of her and keeping her company. So I was able to relax and enjoy the con after all.

And it was a good con; I'd missed it a lot. As usual, I spent most of my time either in concerts, or talking to people. Met a couple of new ones, which is always nice.

Also as usual, I didn't have time to do nearly as much catching up and song-swapping as I wanted to. Not sure what can be done about that, except maybe trying to keep up my blogging.

We got a reasonable number of Trick or Treaters for Halloween, but still had a lot of candy left over for the party.

Quote of the week:

Colleen, as I was getting comfortable in bed beside her: Now you have your pussy.
Me: I'd rather have your pussy.
Curio: picked exactly that moment to pounce in between us. Perfect timing.

A few good links in the notes.

When I went to pay my bills this afternoon (after a walk and a couple of good, long conversations, one with a coworker and one with [livejournal.com profile] cflute), I sat down to pay some bills and, out of curiosity, went to the detail page for the equity line of credit. And saw a rate that was more than a point and a half higher than what was printed on the bill I got in the mail last week.

At this point, I completely lost interest (as it were) in work, and was starting to contemplate the fact that, if I did have a heart attack, the insurance would at least cover the mortgage. Time to head for the bank to see what could be salvaged from the wreckage -- the line-of-credit has an option for converting to a fixed rate.

As it turns out, I'd missed something important: the LOC rate and the fixed rate are pegged to different indices. The fixed rate is tied to a fairly slow-moving average on T-bill rates, and was a lot closer to what I'd been paying on the variable rate loan up until now. Came out of it with a 20-year fixed-rate mortgage at less than the payments I'd been in the habit of paying for the LOC. So that's a win.

But it was close. Another couple of weeks into the meltdown, and...

Got home at about 4:30 and had a good-sized glass of gin. I hope not to have that scary a Halloween again for a loooooong time.

Being too lazy to come up with a costume, especially considering that I'm one of only two or three who seem to take any note of the holiday at all, I simply put on the skull shirt that the [livejournal.com profile] flower_cat designed for me. Got a couple of mentions.

Had time for a walk at lunchtime. It was my third day in regular shoes, and I didn't have any problems. Back to normal?

The kids went out trick-or-treating with separate groups of friends.

About 8:45 I walked over to [livejournal.com profile] jilara's (with the [livejournal.com profile] chaoswolf's coworker D) to see what she had done for her halloween decorations. This year it was a convention of aliens; there was a huge UFO hovering over a neighbor's driveway, various sizes of spider ranging from 6" to a yard or more, and an oddly-constructed creature in which one could recognize a pushbroom and a vacuum cleaner.

Went inside for some conversation and cat-scritching.

The only other noteworthy thing about the excursion was that, when I'm walking with somebody capable of keeping up, I seem to push my pace considerably. This time I managed to keep it reasonable -- last time I took a lunchtime walk with coworkers I got a case of shin splints that had me hobbling around for a week. I noticed a similar effect when I was back at Carleton for a reunion a few years back; somehow about being in familiar surroundings made me walk at the pace I used to use back then. Tiring, but no doubt good for me.

Crawled back into my hole and did a little more work mixing "Cicero".

I am not going to try for NaNoWriMo. It continues to tempt me, but my goal for the month is to make significant progress on my album. (That was my excuse last year, too. This time for sure!)
