I set up a couple of instances of the Planet feed aggregator at work this afternoon -- one for the lab's various internal blogs, and one for many of the other blogs I read daily. It's basically a single Python script (which you run as a cron job) plus a handful of templates. I'll probably set one up at home, too.

Yes, I could undoubtedly add all the feeds to my LJ friends list -- at least at home. Using Planet would just be a way of separating the feeds, most of which are tech-related, from the LJ's, most of which are social. It makes a lot more sense at work, where the blogs I'm aggregating are all internal and where there are several people who'd probably like to share them.
