Saturday was mostly a day of quiet puttering and nostalgia -- the puttering turned up an alumni magazine from a year ago, where I found pictures from my class's 40th reunion, and an obit for Arthur Gropen, my favorite math professor. *sighs*

The insight for the day was that my problem isn't that I don't have enough time to do everything I need to -- that's a given. The problem is not prioritizing things correctly; doing too much of the fun or easy stuff before the hard, necessary stuff. And far too much time thinking about what to do next, instead of just doing it.

I have the same problem...prioritizing what is needed vs what I want to do (or hide in to avoid doing anything) Fun things are easier than most necessary things. If you figure out how to prioritize, please share, as I struggle with that daily myself.

That's a darn good insight ... it's a matter of turning that into action.

I'm a list person ... strangely enough, I think you are too :-)

I've spent days (over the years) designing my ultimate list software ... but have never started writing it (of course!)

The best I ever managed was having a decent multilevel to-do list program on a PDA ... and then making sure I ticked off things as they rose to the top of the lists by due date and priority.

I think I need to get back to that again ... am tempted to put up a whiteboard in the house ... but I think that some sort of wiki-thing might be better! Can you recommend a good online wiki/todo list site (preferably free!)

There seems to be a lot of good buzz around "Remember The Milk"
http://lifehacker.com/software/geek-to-live/get-organized-with-remember-the-milk-309789.php

Of course, if you're that much like me, you'll spend far too much time updating lists and not getting important stuff done (the "color the study schedule" phase of revision that stops students actually cracking open the books ... and how long until "cracking open the books" is like "burning the midnight oil" or "winding the clock", a reference to times gone by!)

Which reminds me, time to go home and get more done on sorting the house, paperwork etc.!
