PSA and test: disabling comments on LJ crossposts

I'm not going to go as far as some people, but I'm going to turn off comments on my crossposts, for several reasons:

1. to save me the trouble of having to import them into Dreamwidth,
2. to reduce my presence on Livejournal, now that it's wholly owned by Putin and Trump,
3. to encourage people to move to Dreamwidth.

Apropos of that, if you have a DW account that I'm not reading yet, just comment on this post and I'll add you.

I notice that you put a footer on your LJ cross-posts making it possible for people to go to the DW version to comment. Is there a code thing to do that automatically or do you put up the DW post, grab the URL and insert it manually in the LJ version?

I can do the latter but it's a lot of messing about and I will probably forget, so if there's a code way to do it, that would be cool to know.

It's set up in the same place as crossposting. Go to Manage > Settings and select the "Other Sites" tab. Underneath the list of accounts you'll see the heading "Crosspost Settings".

The first checkbox is labeled "Disable comments on crossposts made to other sites" -- which I checked. Then you get to define your default footer, plus the footer to add when comments are disabled on Dreamwidth.

At the bottom there's the system default footer, which is what I and most people either use as-is or edit as needed.
