Claim your LJ OpenID on Dreamwidth!

Before you abandon LJ altogether, or even if you don't intend to leave at all, go over to your Dreamwidth account and claim your LiveJournal OpenID (see instructions here)

Doing that ensures that all the comments you made over on LiveJournal will link to your Dreamwidth account when people import them. And if you haven't imported your LJ yet, do it soon before LJ notices that it's going on and blocks it.

ID claimed, thanks for the tip! Import supposedly in progress, but the "Journal entries: waiting in queue" message just keeps adding time, there's no indication of migration actually happening. Not sure if that's because I went in on the LJ side and marked everything either Friends or Private, or not. Also not sure how long to wait before retrying. Do you know if there's a FAQ for import processes?

I'm pretty sure there's a FAQ or two, but I do know that not only does it import things that are marked Friends or Private, it marks the imported posts the same way. It even imports all your friends filters, though it turns them all into access filters, and you have to set up reading filters separately if you want them.

The queue wait is just because everyone else is doing it, and DW is trying not to saturate LJ and get themselves banned.

Thanks! I've actually had a Dreamwidth account for a while, and have been using it more-or-less actively for about the past six months. I was cross-posting to LJ (where I'm "cflute"), but after this latest TOS BS, I'm not willing to have content, visible or not, on their site. I don't want to lose all access to the decade or more worth of posts that are there, though, so I'm hoping the import will work.

If it fails permanently, there are ways of at least archiving it by screen-scraping, but so far imports seem to be working. Though I'm glad to have done it earlier, just after the servers moved to Russia.
