I finally managed to get a CD together for [livejournal.com profile] grendies to take home; I'd wanted to put "The Mary Ellen Carter" and "Ship of Stone" on it, but was too busy with the Y.D.'s science project, party prep, and other insanity to record them. Grump. Final track list was:

It was all something of a half-assed rush job; sorry about that. The only real accomplishments were some last-minute script debugging (the latest cdrdao seems to be having trouble with PREGAP, and I finally tracked down the glitch that was giving me the alphabetically last .wav file for a song, instead of the most recent). I also did a little last-minute tweaking on balance and levels on a couple of songs, and started making notes files so I can keep track of what I'm doing. It's not clear why it's taken me two years to get to this point.

With luck I might be able to get a couple of tracks cut over the weekend before Mom's visit, and can ship updates to the people I owe them to.

Halfway decent article on TechRepublic, mentioned recently on [livejournal.com profile] linux. The title is "10 things you should know about every Linux installation", but it's really more like "What's cool and different about Linux compared to Windows". Despite a few minor inaccuracies (example: "less than half the age of Microsoft Windows" -- Windows 1.0 came out in 1985, and 3.1 in 1991, about the same time as the first Linux kernel) it's a good introduction for someone who knows Windows and is wondering whether to take the plunge.
