The [livejournal.com profile] flower_cat noticed that I was falling asleep in my chair about 9:30. We went to bed at 10:00; I woke up at around 7:30. Ugh. Takes a huge bite out of the evening, but I guess I needed it. Grumble.

Annoyances

mdlbear: (grrr)

For some reason, I have something tickling inside my right nostril. This is after two neti pots and my morning dose of flonase.

My main household workstation has been on its last legs for months. The fan is noisy, there's only one usable SATA port (one of the plastic pieces fell off and got lost), and something is terribly wrong with USB (it dies or simply disconnects in the middle of large file operations). It's merely annoying rather than urgent, so I keep putting it off. I'm waiting for Fry's to have a CPU/motherboard deal under $100 that I like. Dream on.

The Y.D.'s Window$ box is low on memory. Probably needs a nuke-and-pave, but more RAM wouldn't hurt anyway; I'm going to just add another stick and hope that fixes it enough to make her happy for a while.

The battery on Matrix, the 500MHz Thinkpad that I'm typing this into right now, is stone cold dead. Tripped over the power cord last night and it went down instantly. I am not buying a $100 battery for an ancient laptop with a dim, 800x600 display that's worth maybe $50. I'll find a use for it around the house in some fixed location where the cord won't be a problem.

Rethinking

Took the five-mile loop by Los Gatos Creek today. No blisters to show for it either. So Yay! I think I used the time pretty well.

See, I've had this melody stuck in my head for a couple of years now. Probably cobbled together from stolen bits, they all are, but I've made it mine by now. It's basically a march, and has (to my mind at least) a sort of noble, high-fantasy feel to it. It attached itself to Quiet Victories.

Never mind that it blows my original 3/4 scansion to smithereens. That's where it seems to want to be.

Forget heroic fantasy
Those aren't the tales I need to hear
Tell me the tale you never told
Of quiet victory over fear

Still very fragmentary; that's all I have that's reasonably solid at the moment.
