Life is a war, and nobody gets out of it alive. The best you can hope to manage is an honorable defeat.

The River winds back and forth across the wide, unmarked valley between Love and Friendship. Which side you're closest to at any given moment is less important than who's beside you on the journey.

The morning was cool, almost cold, with a vague scent of water and autumn in the air. It will rain soon; perhaps not this week, but soon.

I'd been planning to take today and tomorrow off work to get ready for ConChord. That plan will be partially foiled by our Monday afternoon group meeting moving to today, and I'll need the morning to pay my water bill in person and then go to the bank to figure out why the electronic payment didn't go through, and why their website has the wrong account number and won't let me fix it.

My weight may finally be trending downward; it was 183 this morning after a couple of months at 185. Must remember to avoid carbs, and especially ice cream.

Colleen appears to be doing much better after a change in her medication.

We're getting old. That was not part of the plan, and I don't like it one damned bit.

Put new strings on Flame this evening. They're lighter than the ones that were on her before, and there's just a bit of a buzz when I strum hard. Grump. I'll probably have to have the neck worked on when I get back.

I'll take her and Plink, and do a sound check when I get down to ConChord. Probably end up using Plink on stage, per the original plan. Unfortunate, though; Flame has a thinner neck, so is a significantly easier to play thumb-barre on.

Flame Darling (Ovation CC-48). Brand-new Martin Silk and Steel strings. Let me know if you can hear the buzzing strings on loud notes. Tiny editing glitch in Paper Wings, numerous flubs, and a bit of background noise (including Colleen answering a phone call in the middle of QV), but... The point is to listen to the guitar on this one.

The Zoom's USB storage mode seems to have abruptly stopped working; I've tried several different ways of rebooting or resetting it. The card works fine in a reader, and passed an fsck. *shrug* at least it works in the reader, and that seems a little faster, too.

Going to go re-string Plink now.
