Ask me anything
2005-04-03 10:57 amI've been enjoying peoples' answers to the "five questions" meme, but I'm not really very good at asking questions of other people. Feel free to fire away in the comments, and I'll respond in a separate post. There's nothing sacred about the number five, either.
Just to get things started, you needn't ask any of the following FAQ's:
Just to get things started, you needn't ask any of the following FAQ's:
- Who the heck are you, anyway? Steve Savitzky. It's in my user profile.
- What are your kids' LJ usernames?
chaoswolf and
super_star_girl (AKA the Younger Daughter). The
flower_cat is my wife. - What the heck is that weird user icon? The "Mandelbear Set" is the set of complex numbers z0 with a positive imaginary component such that zn+1 = zn3 + z0 is bounded. The better-known "Mandelbrot Set" uses zn2.
- How long have you been on the Net? The Arpanet saw its first packets in October of 1969, at which point I was already a computer science grad student at Stanford. The AI Lab's IMP was installed in '71 or '72, if I remember correctly. Just to set the record straight, TCP/IP packets weren't sent using carrier pigeons until 2001.
- What did SOS stand for? Son of Stopgap, my hacked-up version of the Stopgap text editor on SAIL's PDP-10.
- When is your album coming out? When it's ready. In time for Consonance. (Hopefully the next Consonance, but...)
