I knew, when swapping a known-quiet Vantec ION power supply into the flower_cat's new computer didn't make a noticable difference, that the only major noise source left had to be the CPU fan. But I didn't know how major. I put in a CoolerMaster LED Silent 8025 system fan, and it's now almost inaudible. In fact, if you stand equidistant from both systems, most of the noise you hear is coming from the other machine -- in an Antec Sonata case under a cardboard box.

Problem solved.

Got an Antec Sonata II, and I'd like to hook up the front-panel FireWire connector. But it's wired for a header like an internal USB, and all the FireWire cards I can find with an internal port offer the same connector as externally. Know of a card with the header, or connector mender?

Not offhand, but it sounds like the kind of thing you might be able to find at Fry's. Look under both IO cards and some of the cable-and-adapter areas.

If it's not there, try asking Antec's tech support -- I don't think it's a unique problem.
