mdlbear...is that when you take it off the shelf to restart sshd, it's possible to accidentally disconnect the power and not notice because, well, it's a laptop and it has a battery that can keep it going all evening when the lid is closed and the backlight is turned off.
If I'd had the replacement system ready to go I could have just slipped it in and nobody would have noticed. But I didn't, quite, and didn't want to fuss with it.
