Today, I think of Vista as the zombie operating system. It stumbles around, and from a distance you might think it's alive, but close up it's the walking dead.

There is a reason why I bought my laptop when I did. "But if you wait, you can get Vista." I'll buy it NOW with XP.
Very glad I did so.
What gets me, is that so many accessories and programs STILL don't work with Vista. Manufacturers are not coming out with the drivers even like they did for XP. Part of the reason I went up to XP is that my pda could do so much more with XP for the os. I'm still not sure I can even run my pda on Vista.
Several programs I have have notes, may not work with Vista. This is NOT good.
And some times my poor computer bogs down with XP. Do NOT want to think of what it would do with Vista.
I'm thinking I won't switch for years, if ever.

That's why I bought Emmy's laptop from Dell.

Unless Microsoft gets their act together, a lot of users will be upgrading to Ubuntu or MacOS next time they need a PC.

I'm getting a notebook computer from Dell in a bit (my birthday present) and I'm going to ask them to install XP which is at least compatible with other stuff around here. Otherwise I'll just have to find out how you get rid of the excrescence and install a real operating system...

They only install it on some of their machines, and it's hard to find on the website. Start with the "small business" pages; the one I got Emmy was a Vostro 1000.

I believe XP is about $50 cheaper than Vista.

Actually I'm going through a large business - Nicolai works for Boeing, and they've got a really good deal going with Dell. :)

I tried to do that (Ricoh) but there were some screw-ups on the Dell end and I ended up just putting it in through the website.

Thus far we've had no trouble and we've bought several computers from them including the XPS I'm typing this on. Fingers crossed!

It apparently had to do with a new sales rep on the Dell side of things.
