After re-filling my prescriptions (ouch!!) and getting some lab-work done (to see whether my new statin is working properly) at Kaiser, I took advantage of the location to go down the street to Sports Basement, a discount sporting-goods store located in the cavernous space that was once the Fry's store at the corner of Lawrence and Kern in Sunnyvale. It has since moved to larger quarters a few blocks away, but the giant [ENTER] and [ESC] keys on the door are still there.
Bought a Polar FS2 heart-rate monitor. It's too clunky to wear as a watch on a regular basis, but it looks as though it will be ok while I'm exercising. Also got a gait analysis in the shoe department; was told that I pronate a little and need "stability shoes". I think the ones I have will provide that -- they're noticably stiffer on the inside. Not clear whether that's the problem. She also recommended arch supports; I have some that I can try.
Compared to the other sports store I've been in recently, especially the Big 5 last weekend, the Sports Basement staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Cute, too.
I did not go out for a walk at lunchtime. Partly that's because I was already running late, and partly because my left ankle was -- and still is -- hurting. Hopefully I'll be able to walk this weekend. Grump.
