Countdown to ConChord

Exactly one month from now I'll be eating breakfast in the Warner Center Marriott, getting ready for my Toastmaster gig at ConChord 21. EEEEP!!

Went over to Joyce's last night for some practice; we worked on the three songs in the tentative setlist that we hadn't worked on before: "Paper Wings", "Millennium's Dawn", and "Quiet Victories". Also worked on "The River".

There's still a chance that Joyce won't make it down to ConChord. She just got laid off last week (anyone -- especially a startup in the Bay Area -- looking for a senior tech writer or documentation manager?) and is currently dealing with some medical/mobility problems. So the setlist for my concert Saturday night is still slightly up in the air. I need to practice more of my repertoire than just the setlist, though, so that's ok. I figure on running through about half the set plus a couple of other songs every day.

It's not at all clear whether I'll be able to get a single of QV put together in time for the con.

Is there a more friendly intimate con than ConChord? Toastmastering will be a snap, it's just saying nice things about your friends.

Is there some way I can help Joyce? Remember, I live within a very few miles of the hotel. The new house is not quite wheelchair-worthy but I'm working on that.

I had not heard QV and just now read the lyrics. Oh My. I want to hear it right now, but that's obviously not happening. I can only imagine Bev's story... but I think I like it. ::evil grin::

I'm more worried about the concert, which I'm less prepared than usual for, than I am about the actual toastmastering. Compared to Consonance it'll be easy; the only real challenge will be dealing with ConChord's inevitable real-time scheduling.

If Joyce does come down she'll have a wheelchair with her; presumably she and Dave would drive down. And they'd be getting an accessible room -- scheduling and logistics are more of a problem than finances for them at this point. Did I mention that her daughter is getting married in October?

There's an audio link on the QV lyrics page, so go for it. Bev's story is exactly what you think it is. Oddly enough, they never found (the rest of) him. "Squeeze, twist, and pull" was, verbatim, the advice given to her by her uncle on the New York police force.
