mdlbear: portrait of me holding a guitar, by Kelly Freas (freas)
[personal profile] mdlbear

After half a week of nervousness, frantic practice, and raw fear, the concerts went well. Small audience, but that's to be expected mid-afternoon on Sunday. A few screw-ups: a swapped chorus in Middle-Sized Bear, and a large number of botched chords that probably nobody in the audience noticed. Nailed all the chord changes in Landscapes, which I wasn't expecting to do. And after taking out two verses in QV I ended up with room for one song. Callie came to my rescue by suggesting WitC, which we can nail cold.

Set list later; I'm about to head out to dinner.

Botched chords? What botched chords?

Your newest songs are your best. "Wheelin'" made Chris tear up a bit and gave me a lump in my throat. Amazing. Are the lyrics available?

You have just done something remarkable - you've given a birthday present to a young woman in Australia whom you don't know.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] rickybuchanan has had CFS (or whatever they're calling it this week) since before I even knew her. For quite a while, your song could have easily been about her - when I visited Australia, she used arm-crutches and/or a wheelchair when she was low on strength. (Incidentally, she's one of the two best huggers in the Southern Hemisphere.) Alas, it's been years now since she was even able to get out of bed without help. But her webpage is titled "Not Done Yet!". And her birthday was just this past Monday, and I just emailed her the link to your song.

You write really amazing songs.

Oops - I forgot she changed the title slightly :-(
Your song reminded me a bit of one of her earlier essays, "But Aren't You Paralyzed? (http://notdoneliving.net/foothold/personal/arent_you_paralysed.html)".

I love Ricky dearly. She's a total geekgirl - she was going for some kind of degree in computer science before she got too sick to go to college. And it's just scaldingly unfair! I wish I could fly to Australia again, and give her big hugs, and cook special things to suit her dietary restrictions... I wish I had Healing talent, so I could make her well... *sigh*

Several people I know are interested in Dreamwidth; I plan on looking into it more, once there's an actual product to look at.
