So far the to.done list seems to be having its intended effect. How long that will continue is anybody's guess; my own guess is a week or so. But a couple of hours spent doing mindless but useful tasks is a couple of hours spent not thinking about a green elephant how miserable and depressed I am. I'll take it.

The more challenging tasks are not getting done, though. Maybe later.

Often, people feed the elephant by thinking about it.

Here's hoping that your to-do list helps starve it down to a more manageable size!!!

You know, I often do dishes when I'm already miserable. I hate doing dishes, you see, and it's not supposed to be my job, so most of the time, the thought (much less the actuality) of _me_ doing them is depressing. But when I'm feeling about as depressed as I can get, doing dishes can't make me feel worse. And I do feel better once they are done. Perhaps not as much better as if they had been done by someone else, but hey, why waste perfectly abysmal misery on sitting around doing nothing?

(Now I'm wondering why my subconscious thinks my aversion to dishes has anything whatsoever to do with your post...)
