Some folks at work threw us a going-away lunch yesterday. Felt pretty weird. (I'm not leaving Ricoh, just moving from one subsidiary back to another.) I'll miss the people at EWS, and I've started writing up an exit report (called "When I Go").

I still have one more coding project left, which I have been neglecting.

The YD is off with her UBF until tomorrow evening. I'm cooking. The house feels a bit weird without the kid, but I could get used to it. Easily.

At home, I think my one accomplishment was figuring out how to attach an otherwise-useless and badly-designed plastic shelf to one side of my desk. It's fragile and awkward, but if it breaks I won't be upset at all, just replace it with something more permanent.

I got sleepy around 10pm, and crashed early.

Quite a few good links in the notes.

Somebody in Redmond, WA actually bought a copy of Coffee Computers and Song at CD Baby! That's my first physical sale there in over a year. You can also buy very high quality MP3s of either the whole album, or individual tracks. Yes, that's a shameless plug.

PSA: I lose control over my tone of voice when I'm seriously overloaded and trying to concentrate on a task, especially under the combination of stress and back pain. I curse, loudly, and anyone attempting to say anything to me at this point is going to be snapped at. Maybe I should work on responding quietly, but have no idea how to go about it. Anger management? Something else? Is there such a thing as "frustration management"?

Also along the River, an unexpectedly affectionate response to a comment elsejournal felt... nice, but rather odd.

It was another day of mostly meetings at work. I think my main job for the next couple of weeks is going to be documentation, AKA doing a brain-dump before I return to research at the end of May.

Some good links in the notes.

Pretty rainbow on the way to work yesterday morning. Best thing that happened all day.

I feel as though I spend half my time explaining things in detail that I thought were obvious the first and second times I said them and got what I thought was understanding, and no questions. Feh!

I bought steelhead for dinner; as it turns out Colleen hates it. I found it ok but not all that great, and it's horrible cold, unlike the salmon that it superficially resembles. The mushrooms with bacon and onions was yummy, though, as was the salad.

Some links, and a weird dream, under the cut.

A lazy morning (you can tell by the number of links), but a good afternoon and a reasonably productive evening. Went to the Stanford Shopping Center with Colleen, in part because I knew she'd enjoy it, and in part because I wanted to get a look at some luggage - a carry-on bag one can sit on. The seat's way too small and too low for more than a few minutes' sitting, and the bag is one huge deep compartment that would be impossible to get anything out of without massive re-arrangement. So, no. Amounted to a decent, if rather too slow, walk.

Colleen found body butter on sale at the Body Shop. They still don't have replacement bodies, though. Come on, people!

On the way home we stopped at Cosentino's and got fish for dinner. Red snapper, three fillets coming to about 1.7 pounds total. Maybe overdoing it -- 1lb would probably have been enough. But tasty. Also string beans done Szechuan style in the wok with red pepper, garlic, and ham. A very nice Beringer moscato to go with it.

After dinner I fixed the internal DNS for thestarport.org (broken after the move to a new server at Dreamhost), did a little work on its index.html page, and got printing going on the YD's desktop machine. (But didn't have the right drivers, nor does Windows 7 appear to have generic postscript drivers. WTF?) Got the laser printer working with a built-in driver that was close enough. And Windows 7 doesn't appear to let you connect to an arbitrary SMB workgroup! What's with that? Or browse for IPP printers. IDIOTS!

Lots of links this time, including a rare post by Colleen and an article on Selfishness and Narcissism in Family Relationships that I think describes several of my friends' family backgrounds. The parent site is mainly about anger management, which I'll probably find helpful.
