To whichever kid put the dishes in the dishwasher: thanks. It helps.

To me: an important part of "putting dinner away" is checking the rice cooker to make sure it's turned off. "Keeps rice warm for two hours" does not mean "turns off the warmer after two hours", it means "rice will be crunchy by morning".

Grand Central Starport Operating Note: Recycling, laundry

In the future, anyone caught leaving bottles to be recycled on top of the washing machine will have to deal with a grumpy Bear, and may have to spend 20 minutes on their knees sweeping glass fragments off the laundry-room floor. The same goes for anyone stupid enough to start the washer without first making sure there is nothing breakable on top of it.

Why, yes; this does include me. Why do you ask? (Left as an exercise for the reader.)

About GSONs: In the spirit of the old SAILON (Stanford Artificial Intelligence Lab Operating Note) memos, the Grand Central Starport Operating Notes will be an occasional series of household-related mini-rants, suggestions, housekeeping tips, and occasional praise. Members of other households may find them useful.
