There's still a hole that I'm missing on the network, possibly because I haven't managed to get the new gateway into operation. Besides that, there are still two Win98 machines up, one of which is the Y.D.'s and known to have crud on it. Not good. Yes, I know: I should have been more ruthless the first time.

Found a (different) rootkit on the machine I normally use as my desktop. Luckily, being a client, there was nothing on it that could be harmed by a full nuke-and-rebuild. Only took about an hour. Thank you, Debian.

The Starport is pretty much open all weekend; there's a propane barbecue, some munchies, some soda, and air conditioning. There will definitely be some people here on Monday the 4th; Saturday and Sunday are not so much a party as a place to get out of the heat. [livejournal.com profile] chaoswolf is having her 20th birthday party on Wednesday the 6th.

Today's main geekish accomplishment was configuring the firewalls, not just for the gateway, but for my Linux client machines and the main file/mail/intranet server as well. I'm sure there are things I've forgotten, but at least now, between that and chkrootkit, I should be reasonably safe against driveby cracking and rogue machines on my own network.

With real luck I may even be able to splice in the new gateway tomorrow morning (while anyone who might actually want to use the Internet is asleep).
