Same route as yesterday, but with the hiking boots instead of the running shoes, and faster. No ankle pain, no shin pain thanks to a little stretching before yesterday's walk, flexeril last night when it seemed to want to knot up, and a little stretching after today's walk. Still haven't done more than glance at the book, but even that has been helpful.

Stats: time: 43:46; avg: 129; max: 156. 20% faster than yesterday! That makes it pretty close to 4mph.

Sounds like the hiking boots are what you need for walkies. Your feet and ankles may just need the extra support. And yeah, stretching is just wonderful for all kinds of things.

One of the stretching moves we do in the evening water aerobics classes feels amazing and just wipes out whatever back pain and tension I have in my spine on the second or third repetition. Some of it returns when I get out of the pool, but not all of it. Wish I could duplicate the move on dry land, but I don't think it is possible. I honestly think the only thing that is keeping me out of a wheelchair is the water aerobics and swimming.
